Kuwait Launches Design Studies for the GCC Component of Its National Railway Project with Inaugural Kick-Off Meeting

Kuwait City, May 13, 2025 — The State of Kuwait marked a pivotal landmark today with the official kick-off meeting of design and consultancy services for the long-anticipated Kuwait National Railway Project. The event, held under the auspices of the Public Authority for Roads and Transportation (PART) officials, International Main Consultant PROYAPI Muhendislik ve Musavirlik Anonim Sirketi, and key sub-consultants assigned by PROYAPI to formally initiate First Phase of the strategic infrastructure development.

The meeting highlighted Kuwait’s commitment to enhancing regional connectivity, reducing traffic congestion, and supporting sustainable transport solutions through the introduction of a modern railway network. The Kuwait Railway Project is a vital component of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Railway initiative, aimed at linking member states through an integrated rail system.

The session was opened with greetings and opening speech of General Manager of PART Mr. Khaled ALOSAIMI and Chairman of PROYAPI Mr. Murat KORU. During the session, led by session moderator project manager of the Kuwait National Railway Project and General Manager of PROYAPI Mr. Bülent AKSOY and Consultant team provided a comprehensive overview of the project scope, timelines, and technical requirements. In the main time the Consultant delivered a presentation outlining the preliminary design strategy, environmental and geotechnical assessments, and coordination plans with neighboring GCC states.

In his remarks, representatives from PART and PROYAPI emphasized the national importance of the railway project and how it will transform the way people and goods move across Kuwait and the Gulf.

The Project’s initial phase will cover approximately 111 kilometers, connecting Kuwait City with the Saudi border through key logistics and passenger hub.

The kick-off meeting concluded with a Q&A part, stakeholder engagement, and compliance with international railway safety and sustainability standards.

Design studies for the GCC component of Kuwait national railway project is expected that the design studies to be completed in next 12 months, with construction projected to commence thereafter.
