The KNRR is a major national infrastructure initiative that aims to develop a railway network across Kuwait and connect it with the wider Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Railway. It will support both passenger and freight transport.
The GCC Component refers to the southern segment of the KNRR, linking Kuwait to the border with Saudi Arabia, and forming part of the broader GCC Railway that connects all six GCC countries.
The project is managed by the Public Authority for Roads and Land Transport (PART) in coordination with relevant Kuwaiti ministries and authorities.
The consultancy for the KNRR – GCC Component is being delivered by Proyapı Engineering and Consultancy Inc., a leading international firm. A specialized team named Proyapı Railminds has been formed within the company to lead the project.
The project aims to:
• Improve regional and domestic connectivity
• Support trade and logistics
• Provide a modern alternative to road transport
• Create jobs and stimulate investment
• Align with Kuwait Vision 2035 and sustainable development goals
The KNRR is being developed in accordance with the GCC Railway Common Guidelines to ensure full interoperability across the regional rail network.
The KNRR project is being delivered in multiple phases. Timelines for construction and operation will be announced following the completion of design and tendering stages.
